Higher Mass Limits (HML)

Are you loading to your
vehicle’s full potential?

What mass are you loading to?

If you’re running below Higher Mass Limits, you’re likely leaving serious money on the table.

Take a tri-axle group as an example.
At GML, you’re capped at 20 tonnes.
At CML, that increases to 21 tonnes.
But under HML, that same tri-axle group can run at 22.5 tonnes.

That’s an extra 1.5–2.5 tonnes per axle group.

Across an entire combination, that difference adds up fast — and over months of work, it can mean thousands in additional revenue without adding another truck or driver.

We Manage the Process. You Gain the Payload.

Many operators stay at GML simply because the HML process feels complicated. Mass Management accreditation, approved telematics, access permits, route conditions — it can seem like too much paperwork.

But the upside is clear: more payload per trip, better asset utilisation, and stronger margins on the same freight task.

We manage the entire HML process for you — from accreditation through to permits — so you can operate at the highest legal mass available on your routes.

If your competitors are already on HML and you’re not, they’re moving more freight with the same gear.

Are you running at your full legal capacity?

What You Need to Run at HML

Running at HML isn’t automatic — but the requirements are straightforward when handled properly.

Here’s what needs to be in place:

1) Mass Management Accreditation

You must be accredited under the Mass Management module. This shows you have systems in place to control weights properly. An accreditation label is fitted to your prime mover.

2) Road-Friendly Suspension

Your truck and trailers must have certified road-friendly suspension.

3) Approved Routes & Permits

You must operate on approved HML routes.

If you need access to roads that aren’t already part of the HML network — or if your vehicle configuration isn’t covered by an existing notice — a permit application must be lodged with NHVR.

4) Telematics (QLD & NSW)

If you’re operating in Queensland or New South Wales, your vehicle must have a telematics device installed that is approved for TMA (Telematics Monitoring Application).
