HVRAS – Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme
What is HVRAS?
The Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS) is essential for ensuring that heavy vehicles (over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass) and trailers (over 750 kilograms aggregate trailer mass) meet the necessary safety and compliance standards to gain registration from Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in Queensland.
HVRAS requires an accredited inspector to conduct a thorough assessment of your vehicle. This inspection is crucial to confirm that your vehicle adheres to dimensional requirements and operates within legal limits to ensure safety on the roads.
The Inspection Includes:
- Vehicle configurations and dimensions (ADR 43)
- General safety requirements and tyre limits (ADR 42 and ADR 96)
- Load sharing suspension system (if applicable); and
- Vehicle identifications numbers and plates (engine numbers, vehicle identification number and chassis number).
When is HVRAS Required?
When is HVRAS Required?
A Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS) is necessary in the following situations:
- If your vehicle has been unregistered in Queensland for over 90 days: Reactivating the registration process requires compliance verification.
- When transferring your vehicle’s registration from another state to Queensland: Ensuring it meets local regulations is essential for a smooth transition.
- If your vehicle has undergone modifications: Any changes made to the vehicle may affect its compliance and require an assessment to confirm it meets safety standards.
HVRAS Inspection Process
HVRAS Inspection
A comprehensive HVRAS inspection will be completed by one of our qualified inspectors. The inspector will provide you with the details of your vehicle’s condition and compliance.
Certificate Issued
Once the HVRAS inspection is completed, you will receive the detailed inspection report. This will need to be submitted to Transport and Main Roads Qld for you to have you vehicle registered.
At Tri Axle Group, we have a team of assessors who are certified under the Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS). We can help you with the inspection and measurement of your vehicle or trailer. However, if your vehicle or trailer is imported and has never been registered in Australia before, you will need to get it verified by the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland first.
